Threadless, internal thread, clicker: what are the differences?
Threadless, internal thread, clicker: what's the difference?
Before choosing your piercing jewelry, it's important to understand the different closure systems, types of jewelry, and terms used, which might seem a bit technical at first glance. This allows you to make a choice that suits your piercing, your daily comfort, and your healing process :)
Threadless:
Threadless is a screw-free system. The jewelry stays in place thanks to a slightly flexible pin that clips into the bar.
This screw-free system is widely used by jewelry designers such as Naga Jewelry, Buddha Jewelry, and Sacred Symbols.

External thread
External thread means the threading is on the post, and the top screws onto it.
⚠️ Be careful, this type of jewelry is less recommended as it can irritate the piercing channel when inserted.

Internal thread:
Internal thread means the threading is inside the bar. The top screws into it.
We use this type of jewelry at the shop to minimize irritation to the piercing channel.

Clicker:
A clicker is a ring with a hinge that opens and closes with a "click".
It's a very easy-to-use type of jewelry, but it doesn't fall out easily either.

Barbell:
A straight bar with an end (e.g., a ball) at each extremity.

Curved barbell
A slightly curved bar with two ends.
This type of jewelry is used for navel, eyebrow, or rook piercings, for example.

Labret
A straight bar with a flat disk at the back and an end (ball or other) at the front.

Segment ring
A ring with a removable part that fits into the circle.
This system requires a very specific pair of pliers, which is not very practical for beginners.

Seam ring
A ring with no visible mechanism, which opens by twisting it slightly.

Captive bead ring
A ring with a bead held between its two ends.
This system also requires some manipulation with pliers, also not recommended for beginners.
