The healing of a piercing doesn't happen in exactly the same way for everyone! Indeed, it depends on several factors: the pierced area, your lifestyle, how the piercing is done, and also the jewelry worn. It's certainly a common saying, but it's important to emphasize: every body is different, and everyone heals at their own pace.
If you're already experiencing healing issues, we invite you to read this article :)

If you're reading this as a preventative measure, here are the most important points to keep in mind:
Coming to the shop one month after your piercing is essential. It allows us to check that everything is going well and, most importantly, to downsize your jewelry (learn more about downsizing). This is an important step to avoid a lot of problems later on.
Sleeping on your piercing is one of the most common mistakes. It can lead to jewelry migration, as well as swelling, redness, or pain. If you find it hard to avoid sleeping on the side of the piercing, a U- or O-shaped pillow (like for travel) can really help.
Not all piercings heal at the same rate: cartilage piercings are clearly the slowest, taking up to a year for complete healing. In contrast, a lobe or septum piercing will often be simpler and faster for the vast majority.
Certain habits can slow down healing without us realizing it. Avoid touching or manipulating your jewelry, especially with dirty hands. And don't pick at scabs: even if it's tempting, it also disrupts healing. You need to pay attention to your habits: a misplaced comb or hair dye that gets on the piercing can lead to a potential healing issue.
Also avoid swimming pools, spas, and hammams for at least a month: stagnant and potentially dirty water is definitely not your ally during this period.
Finally, how the piercing was done plays a huge role. At the shop, we use needles appropriate for the piercing procedure and biocompatible, hypoallergenic initial jewelry. Conversely, a piercing done with a gun or catheter using steel or plated jewelry will clearly not help with good healing.
