Common Misconceptions About Piercing Healing
The 90s called and they want their terrible piercing aftercare back!
Unfortunately, we often have to deal with the aftermath of unscrupulous piercers who are stingy with quality materials and, above all... unskilled.
It's okay, that's just how it is, but we're still going to address one or two important points, because some of the advice given is truly awful and dangerous.
First: DO NOT TWIST YOUR JEWELRY
And second: STOP FIDGETING WITH IT CONSTANTLY!
Believe it or not, these are the two most important tips for ensuring your piercing heals properly!
Your jewelry will not "stick" to your skin. Well, this can happen if you bought very cheap, very poor-quality jewelry (which always goes hand in hand). As for the gold or titanium jewelry we install at the shop: this cannot happen.
Twisting the jewelry tears off the small scabs that can form during the healing of your piercing:
-
But Jamy, why is that such a terrible idea?
-
Well, it's very simple, Fred: the more you pick at the scabs, the more you expose the raw skin underneath, which leads to new scabs, and so on.
-
Oh wow, Jamy, does that mean it's like when you scratch an old scab on your knee and it never heals?
-
Yes, Fred, it's completely idiotic.

The more you handle your jewelry, the more likely it is to slow down healing. Even with clean hands, don't fiddle with your piercings! And with dirty hands, let's not even talk about it.
Another misconception: Mandatory disinfectant.
It's not necessarily necessary to disinfect a piercing... that isn't infected! It's extremely rare to see a true infection on a piercing, at least in our shop. Adding a disinfectant or any other alcohol-containing product to a fresh piercing is counterproductive; it will only increase inflammation in the area and cause redness and swelling.
