Article: Are you struggling with the healing of your piercing?

Are you struggling with the healing of your piercing?

If you are struggling with the healing of your Helix, the reason may be below!

First of all, you should know that a cartilage piercing can take up to a year to heal. This is normal; your body works at its own pace.

One of the most common reasons for healing "bugs" is when a ring is placed early or too early. Don't put a ring on cartilage until 6 to 8 months of healing, and if you want to know why, you can read about it in this other blog post.

You played the game and you put a straight bar on your Helix for 6 months, but you're still struggling?

It may be due to the material of the jewelry! To avoid any risk of allergic reaction, you should use good quality titanium or gold.

An allergic reaction is not necessarily the ear tripling in size, it can just be redness, irritation, lymph, itching...etc. We avoid steel which is still not surgical, we also avoid Teflon and bad 'gold' plating sold in jewelry stores.

If there is a very thin layer of gold on the jewelry, the material underneath is often very crappy and full of nickel.

If it is not the jewel itself or its material, then you have to look elsewhere:

Maybe it's because of the way the piercing was done, with a gun (something you should definitely not do) or a needle? It could be the angle of the piercing, if you slept on it too early then maybe the canal was deviated?

Do you regularly use dyes that come into contact with the piercing? Have you taken a hit on it? Do you regularly wear headphones, a motorcycle helmet, or even a riding helmet?

In short, you will have understood, if there is a problem with healing then it is important to understand the origin, otherwise it will never heal... :(

Don't hesitate to visit a competent piercer to understand the problem and resolve it if you are short of ideas!

A good professional will know how to ask you the right questions and suggest treatments to help you. However, it's rarely a good idea to follow the advice of strangers online, such as putting cat pee on your piercing on a full moon night to make it heal...

PS: A healing bug ≠ an infection! Disinfecting an uninfected piercing is not helpful and may even be the cause of the problem because alcohol-based disinfectants will only inflame the area. Physiological serum is sufficient in the vast majority of cases.

If you have a question or a problem with your piercing, you can come to the shop without an appointment even if we didn't do it, we are open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
